Durango’s Best Recipe Secrets

With almost a Christmas-like Secret Santa fun, the Bergs hold their Durango restaurant’s many beloved recipes captive. From their famous Green Chile to their secret seasoning they put on everything t salty to their world famous Cinnamon Rolls and the best French Toast on Earth, they simply will not tell.

Early on this October after visiting Oscar’s Durango restaurant, Christi Stitton wrote via the Facebook fan page:

“Your French toast is to die for!! I’m from Missouri and wondered if your recipe is a secret or if you would share it with me. I would love to fix it for my grand kids!”

Christina Foreman, daughter of Paula and Bruce, replied:

“My Dad invented it when they first opened Oscars some 32 years ago (he calls it his job security –haha, funny guy). I was only just told the recipe when I finished College and came back to help with the family restaurant. Can you believe it? I think they thought I would paint the campus in the recipe (which is not too far off I am sure — that French Toast is addicting). Although I cannot tell you what is in it — maybe I can talk them into letting me mix the spices up with appropriate cooking instructions and send it to you in Missouri? I can tell you the trick is……we deep fry it! But just grilling it in our batter is just as wonderful….oh the fried part is just sinfully delicious! Right?!?”

Always playful, the staff will always politely grin when asked the recipe. But not to worry, the family owned Durango restaurant has always been here to serve you and wouldn’t miss a day, except Christmas, to make you feel right at home here in Durango, Colorado.

We’re Known for…

FRENCH TOAST – Thick wedges of bread dipped in our homemade batter and fried to a golden brown. Thick, premium bacon and eggs on the side complete this delicious breakfast favorite.

BREAKFAST BURRITOS – Fluffy scrambled eggs, sausage and cheese wrapped in a huge flour tortilla smothered with our homemade chili verde and melted cheeses. Served with homemade hashbrowns.

FOREMAN BURGER – A juicy burger topped with one egg, bacon, jalapeno jack and cheddar cheeses. Served on a ciabatta roll with mayo and lettuce. Choose freshly cut fruit, crisp seasoned french fried, potato salad or homemade soup as a side.

UNCLE REUBEN SANDWICH – Freshly cut corned beef, homemade 1000 island dressing and kraut piled high on grilled marble rye bread and melted swiss cheese. A local favorite!
